Marketing Online Art Gallery

I run an online art gallery and I have difficulties reaching out to customers, because i am an online outfit, while my products are visual in nature. While i have gorgeous paintings, the problem is that this cannot be embodied in full by pictures alone. Nevertheless i am trying to reach more people online.

I have tried distributing flyers, door to door and street, to ZERO results. I have a bit more successs with some forums and classifieds in terms of sales. In terms of web hits, i have been able to get a consistent rise via pay per clicks.

In your opinion, what is the best marketing tool for an online art gallery?

The best marketing tool for an online art gallery is of course....online :)

Art is a niche area. You have gotten some visitors coming to your site via pay-per-click (vs zero results from distributing flyers),which indicates that there are actually people online who are interested in what you have to offer.

There are a number of ways to improve your online marketing efforts:-

1) Creating a theme-based content rich website
By having a content hub about your niche, you will be able to attract targeted visitors from the search engines that finds you for keywords related to your business. Over the long run, this will give you more targeted visitors at a lower cost than pay-per-click. You can perhaps cover a range of topics from art review to providing the latest trends on digital arts.

2) Having a good social media presence
Have a integrated social media presence in major social media networking platforms such as facebook and twitter to engage your target audience on these platforms and attract them to come to your content hub.

3) Build your email database and create newsletters
You should capture the details of visitors to your website and continue to engage them with captivating newsletters, because not all visitors may buy your products immediately, but given an ongoing followup through newsletters, they may buy from you some time in the future.

Offer Newsletter

Perhaps by offering newsletters to keep your visitors updated on the latest art trends and art pieces that you have, may get them to opt-in to your list.

Other than that, offering to organize gatherings for digital art lovers if they opt into your mailing list may also work.

Thanks for the detailed info, much of it is useable, never really thought about social media marketing, but it makes much sense to me now! :)

Is it ok if you suggested to me how i might be able to capture the emails of visitors? Technically, i know how to do it( using contact forms) but how can i entice them to sign up? Because i have no free paintings to give out, and i do not foresee visitors wanting to download a knowledge package about the world of arts from me. Any suggestions?
