This has always been a stand that I have been taking. Social media marketing is way overhyped and oversold. Social media is just a tactical tool, among many others, for the savvy marketer to use in the overall marketing strategy.
"Social media" is just the adjective, "Marketing" is the noun. Social media marketing must still be based on solid marketing principles and shouldn't be just about "Should my company be on Facebook?" or "Should my company blog?". The answers to those questions can make sense against the bigger backdrop of your marketing strategy.
